Dr. Maté spent over 20 years in family practice and palliative care before dedicating more than a decade to working with patients facing addiction and mental illness in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. His book on addiction won the Hubert Evans Prize for literary non-fiction. For his innovative medical contributions and writing, he received the Order of Canada and the Civic Merit Award from Vancouver. His notable books include “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts,” “When the Body Says No,” “Scattered Minds,” and “Hold on to Your Kids” co-authored with Dr. Gordon Neufeld. His upcoming works are “The Myth of Normal,” releasing on September 13, 2022, and “Hello Again,” expected in 2023. Dr. Maté also co-developed Compassionate Inquiry, a therapeutic approach embraced by professionals worldwide.
